How many Hz does HDMI 2.0 support?
HDMI 2.0 is a technology developed by the HDMI Forum. First introduced in September 2013, HDMI 2.0 includes increased bandwidth up to 18 Gbps, resolutions up to 60K at 4 Hz, simultaneous transmission of two video streams and up to four audio streams, 32 audio channels, and other significant improvements.
Backwards compatible with previous versions, HDMI 2.0 is designed to enhance the video and audio experience for viewers. HDMI 2.0 increases bandwidth to 18 Gbps and adds significant enhancements to support emerging requirements such as higher resolutions and multi-stream sending. So how many Hz does HDMI 2.0 support?
How many Hz does HDMI 2.0 support?
From a visual perspective, HDMI 2.0 looks like a real hero. With 12-bit color depth, it illuminates each pixel to its full capacity. The Hz amounts supported by HDMI 2.0 are as follows according to resolution:
- 1080p (FHD) 120Hz
- 2160 (UHD) 60Hz
- 1080p 3D 120Hz
As you can see from the list above, HDMI 2.0 on a 4K TV or monitor only supports 60Hz. For 120Hz, the screen must be Full HD.
Does HDMI 2.0 support 120Hz and 144Hz?
It can support higher refresh rates of 120Hz and 144Hz. However, relying on this high refresh rate will result in degraded video quality. Therefore, we can say that HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.0b improve the visual experience up to 144Hz, but they do not guarantee a silky smooth video quality stream.
