iPad keyboard not working fix
We explain all the methods and processes to fix iPad keyboard not working problem.
The virtual keyboard of the iPad is a true wonder. Throughout this last decade Apple has been modifying and improving it little by little, including functions as interesting as the divided keyboard, the floating keyboard, the keyboard touch gestures or all the features of its toolbar.
However, certain bugs in some operating system software updates can cause the iPad virtual keyboard to not appear. Sometimes it can even hang and not hide or rotate when you change the orientation of the iPad. They are minor problems that, luckily, have an easy solution. We have listed below all the methods to make iPad keyboard reappear.
My iPad keyboard does not appear, what should I do?
If your iPad keyboard doesn’t appear on the screen, it may be due to a bug, incompatibility issues with specific apps, or another system failure. These methods will help you fix the problem.
Restart an app
Are you using an application on your iPad and when you press on a text field the keyboard does not appear? The fastest and most efficient solution in these cases is to simply restart the application. Close it, reopen it, and see if the keyboard appears on the iPad screen.
Restart the iPad
If the previous solution does not work, it is best to restart the iPad. Without a doubt, it is the alternative that usually solves the most problems. All running processes and system resources will be drained, so when you reboot everything should be as good as new. To restart, press and hold the lock button and a volume button until the prompt to turn off iPad appears.
Remove external keyboard
One of the reasons why your iPad keyboard is not appearing on the screen may be that the system is recognizing that a physical keyboard such as the Magic Keyboard is already set up and in use. In these cases, it is best to delete the keyboard configuration.
- Open the Settings app.
- Access the Bluetooth section.
- Press the (i) button on the external keyboard.
- Finally click on “Forget device”.
Switch between physical keyboard and virtual keyboard
Perhaps you had connected the external keyboard of your iPad without realizing it and that is why the virtual keyboard does not appear on the screen. If that’s the case, you’ll be happy to know that there is a way to switch between one and the other.
- Click on the keyboard button in the floating bar when you are writing an email or editing a document.
- Then click on the “Show keyboard” option from the floating menu.
Update iPadOS software
Some errors are caused by an incompatibility due to the fact that the iPad does not have the latest available version of software installed. If the keyboard does not appear, this could be the cause.
- Open the Settings app on your iPad.
- Go to the General section.
- Access the Software update section.
- Check if there is a new version of iPadOS software available.
Resets the keyboard dictionary
Finally, another of the possible solutions to the problem that the keyboard does not appear on the iPad screen is to reset the dictionary, the loading of its contents could be causing it to not work well.
- Open Settings in iPadOS.
- Enter the General section.
