Logitech MX Keys Mini box contents
Logitech presents the Logitech MX Keys Mini in a compact dark gray cardboard box. On the cover, the product image, the company logo and the model we have are seen.
It is a wireless keyboard with smart lighting that stands out with its ultra-thin design and keys that promise fluent writing, which is very pleasant to touch.
On both sides of the box are its contents, wireless connection via Bluetooth, serial number and 2-year warranty seal. Flipping the box, Logitech reminds us of its compatibility with all current operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android).
When we open the box, we see the keyboard wrapped in thin paper and it fits perfectly in its case. The package consists of:
- Logitech MX Keys Mini Keyboard
- USB charging cable
- Warranty booklet
The first thing we ask ourselves is. Where is the 2.4G USB receiver? Since the keyboard is connected via Bluetooth, it also does not include a 2.4G receiver.
The productive power of TKL design
The Logitech MX Keys is an obviously low-profile thin keyboard with a very distinctive design. It attracts attention with its soft and curved shapes, it is very ergonomic. This is quite important because it makes it very convenient for users who work hours a day. That’s why it’s essential to have comfortable peripherals to be more productive.
Logitech MX Keys Mini is a keyboard without rear boost pins. We have a “rod-shaped” second level that creates a very light but sufficient height. The keyboard measures 30 cm x 13.5 cm x 20.5 cm (width x depth x height) and weighs 499 grams.
On the back, only the charging connection via USB Type-C, the manual on-off button of the keyboard and the LED indicator that informs us the status of the keyboard battery draws attention. It tells us if the charging health is good in green or if it is in orange when it suggests us to charge via USB.
The keys contain activity LEDs on the keys. The back of the keyboard has a clean and simple design where we hardly have to emphasize anything. Essentially, it showcases the model of the keyboard in the center and hides the integrated batteries in the upper area.
In order to prevent the keyboard from slipping easily on the supported surface, there are a total of four non-slip rubbers, two in the upper area and two in the lower area. It does its job wonderfully.
The charging cable is USB C format, rubber coated and has a total length of 100 cm, which seems a little short to us. This cable only allows us to charge the keyboard and use it with a wireless connection. It never helps us to use the keyboard so your computer must have a bluetooth connection or if you don’t have bluetooth then buy a Logi Bolt USB receiver where you can use all your Logitech devices in one USB connection.
Scissor and Low Profile Keys
We think Logitech has done a very good job of protecting scissor keys that have produced very good results. These switches are a variation of traditional membrane switches, but you can type faster and more conveniently with them. They use a rubber dome to press the keys, unlike the ones mentioned above, these contain a plastic scissor shaped mechanism that allows them to press the key all the way down.
The keycaps have a rounded design around the edges and have a central recess on all alphanumeric keys except the function keys and space bar. What does Logitech achieve with this? We place our fingers in a much more ergonomic and stable middle position.
As with MX Keys, we have a clean and minimalist typography crafted with a sans serif font. Maintaining this design seems to us a success. Great job from Logitech!
How to use Logitech MX Keys
We will start by talking about its autonomy, as it is one of the most important points of a high-performance wireless keyboard.
Battery time will vary whether we use the backlight of the keys or not. When enabled, Logitech estimates a period of ten days, while without this function enabled it will reach about five months.
To comment on the connectivity as well, the availability of Bluetooth is the alternative to the USB receiver it doesn’t include. In our case, we chose to connect our Windows 11 Pro office computers via Bluetooth, but with this connection it is also compatible with smartphones or tablets so we can get the most out of our devices. Note that it saves profiles for simultaneous connection of up to three computers.
Lighting to enhance the nighttime experience
We use the keyboard with the backlight enabled and we really like the fact that all the keys have a white color, which helps make it easier to see the keys when using it.
We like that it includes photosensitive sensors that allow us to customize the intensity to our liking (we do this from the function keys). Like proximity sensors that activate the backlight when our hands are close.
If our hands move away from the keyboard, the lights of the keys will turn off. Sometimes, instead of pressing the key directly during the first keypress, you may need to bring your hand closer and press the correct key after the light comes on. However, it is important that the light does not stay on all the time in terms of battery life. After all, it’s a wireless keyboard and it doesn’t get power from the wire all the time.
Logi Options+ Software
Once our Logitech MX Keys Mini has been paired with our computer via Bluetooth we will need to install the Logi Options+ app to get the most out of it.
As many of you know, uncontrolled power is useless. This app offers us options in an easy and intuitive way to customize all the products of the MX series and thus get the most out of our peripherals.
We like the Application Specific Settings option where we can add your custom app to the Logitech MX Keys Mini or manually install pre-installed programs like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Davinci Resolve and more.
Phrases and voice dictation
Logitech is packing two new features into its dedicated buttons. The first is the emoticons key, which allows us to quickly add emojis to express our mood while talking in instant messaging.
The second innovation is the voice dictation button. The keyboard has a key that starts the function of listening to what we say if the PC has a microphone. Also, the Business version even has a microphone on the keyboard and comes with a Logi Bolt 2.4 Ghz receiver out of the box.
