Meet Your Maker review
Allowing players to switch between the roles of the raider avoiding grisly traps and the builder who placed them there, Behavior Interactive’s Meet Your Maker is a multiplayer game that makes death not an art but a test of your situational awareness.
Meet Your Maker review
Meet Your Maker introduces us to a world in ruins. The beautiful flora and fauna of this world were shattered and completely turned into red dust. Pure genetic material is the most valuable asset and the key to evolving your Chimera. Meet Your Maker is a sci-fi action game where players build trap-laden outposts for others to later raid for resources.
It’s this basic loop that holds everything together. Once you’ve gone through both the raid levels and the tutorials for building them, you’re free to choose user- and developer-made stages. Your mission in each is to make your way through outposts in the middle of a post-apocalyptic desert to find and steal GenMat, a valuable material needed to help rebuild human civilization.
When you clear an Outpost, you are rewarded with the GenMat you receive, as well as a bunch of other resources. With these materials you can then start building your own levels and also upgrade your weapons, traps and other equipment.
Meet Your Maker gameplay
You have a bolt gun for ranged attacks, a sword for melee attacks, and a grappling hook to help you get around. All of this will come in handy when entering a level, but there’s no way to know what to expect at the beginning; Traps can be anywhere.
After a few matches, you’ll start to understand what the traps look like and how to deal with each type of enemy. Most traps are embedded in surfaces, and most of them trigger when you’re close enough. Protruding spikes, bolts, flames, bombs and more can trip you up. Once you know what they look like, you can destroy them and they will no longer pose a threat.
Enemy guards are more difficult as they move targets, but they can be defeated. If you play carefully, you can reach a level’s GenMat unscathed. There are more challenging levels that seriously speed things up, and they’re more engaging.
The good thing is that it’s pretty easy to create your own levels. Once you capture an outpost, you can fully customize it using large blocks, then fill it with traps and guards to meet the minimum defense required.
